Extra tax credits due to corona

user246854 · 06/04/2020 11:20

Due to corona tax credits are due to increase. As were now in new tax year I was expecting payment to start but my online statement is still showing the same payments as it did a few weeks ago. Does anyone know when the increase is due to start?

My normal payment day is Wednesday so mine won't be early. No update on payments yet so will have to see what happens next week

No change for me yet either. I get mine on a Monday so next week's was paid early (yesterday) due to bank holiday, and was the usual amount.

midnightstar66 · 10/04/2020 16:29

I read that any increase that's people have already seen was the already planned new tax year one. The covid increase won't be seen in payments til May

midnightstar66 · 10/04/2020 16:30

... May for those paid monthly, sooner I assume for weekly payments

SpideyMom · 12/04/2020 13:29

I'm paid weekly and mine have had no difference at all

gluteustothemaximus · 12/04/2020 13:31

No difference here at all. Been checking daily Grin

LetMeOut · 13/04/2020 09:00

Not updated for me. When I do the calculator on line looks like about £60 difference, I get mine every 4 weeks

lemonjumper · 14/04/2020 16:48

Still no change to the scheduled payment amounts on the HMRC app for me...

user246854 · 14/04/2020 18:26

Me neither but saw in a Facebook post today someone saying they are working though them and they should all be updated by end of week

I read on the money saving expert forums .Tax credits have said it will update by the 18th may by the latest. Theres a few posts on there of people wondering the same thing. A few of them have tweeted or contacted them and been told 18th may

AMomHasNoName · 14/04/2020 18:29

Can I ask why tax credits are increasing due to corona virus?

Can I ask why tax credits are increasing due to coronavirus

Really?

It's because people have lost income.

Gizmo79 · 14/04/2020 18:39

I get that thanks, but a lot of people aren’t entitled to tax credits in the first place so just have to take the hit....
Given that most people who are now off work due to being furloughed are now on 80% of their salary still, have massively reduced expenditure, seems a bit odd that so many people are getting an increase.
Surely, if you are still getting 80% you will be paying less tax, NI and pension so with the reduced expenditures due to the lockdown, shouldn’t all need to have an increase?

em90792 · 14/04/2020 18:51

It's for working tax credits, not child tax credits. So would be for people whom already work.. not just in general.

lemonjumper · 14/04/2020 18:53

Wow - 18th May is a bit of a wait!

lemonjumper · 14/04/2020 18:56

@Gizmo79 The increase is 'up to £20 per week' for people on Working Tax Credit. So, it's people who work but earn a low salary. Some of those will indeed be receiving 80% of their salary, but if their salary is already low then 80% may not be enough to survive on. Others will be self employed, so not receiving 80% and not likely to see any further financial support until June.

perniciousdot · 14/04/2020 18:59

@Gizmo79

The 'what about' isn't really helpful. It's an extra £20 a week or less for people who will appreciate it. The circumstances of others can't be pitted against that. I can't believe anyone would have a problem with people getting help Sad

Gizmo79 · 14/04/2020 19:04

Thankyou, was just asking the question pernicious. Didn’t realise that was now banned on here.

stickerqueen · 14/04/2020 19:08

i logged in yesterday and my payments have changed gone up by £3.00 per week and will get a one off payment of £200 this week. I'm sure it's not corona related though my payments normally change at this time of year and get a one off payment.

perniciousdot · 14/04/2020 19:10

but a lot of people

Thankyou, was just asking the question pernicious.

No, you were having a go about why some people are getting help.

Didn’t realise that was now banned on here.

Nobody said anything was banned? What a weird thing to say. We all have the freedom to post as we choose.

perniciousdot · 14/04/2020 19:10

Ignore the first part, god knows what went wrong

Ostanovka · 14/04/2020 19:18

My childcare costs have stopped as nursery is closed, are HMRC going to make me claim UC instead of tax credits when I inform them?

INeedNewShoes · 14/04/2020 19:20

Can I ask why tax credits are increasing due to corona virus?

The only reason you would click on this thread that doesn't actually concern you is to come on and be a goady fucker. Mission accomplished.

Working tax credits are for people who are working but for whatever reason don't earn much. The extra £20 will make a significant difference to these families.

Most people furloughed and still receiving 80% salary are most likely saving on commuting costs etc. whilst not having to work.

People still receiving Working Tax Credits will still be going to work to earn their extra £20 while those furloughed are very lucky to be being paid 80% for no work.

Gizmo79 · 14/04/2020 19:33

I was not having a go, I was merely asking.

And no, I did not come on here to be a goads fucker.

I apologise if I have caused offence. Sorry.
