Council Tax Benefit Application relating to Universal Credit

I'm sincerely hoping someone can help me.

I have just had it confirmed that after being Furloughed my application for Universal has been successful.

I'm now wanting to apply for Council Tax benefit but I don't have a breakdown as yet of what my Universal Credit payment is made up of.

My assessment period is from today's date 01/04 - 30/04 with my first payment from them being due on 06/05/20.

There is an immediate advance available (which is more than what the monthly benefit will be) but I still need to sit and work out my outgoings for the foreseeable before deciding whether I need to access that.

My question is, do I have to wait a month (until I get my UC statement on 02/05) for the breakdown so I can complete the very detailed application form my local council has online?

My local Council are deferring the new year's Council Tax bill if need be, but Id rather submit a claim sooner rather than later and pay what is due when it is due if at all possible.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance

You're welcome. I would ring them and see if they will set an arrangement on the arrears.

I've submitted my claim. I have a calendar month to submit the evidence they require. Unfortunately they only answer the phone up to 1.30pm on Thursdays... just wanted to ask if their offices open to cast their eye over my documents... or whether in the current situation, I'll have to post them. Their phone lines re-open at 8.30am tomorrow.

Thanks again for your help @AtAmber Smile

They probably won't be able to see your claim form until tomorrow. Some councils will let you email evidence. Some won't. They will probably ask for proof of ID and NINO then your UC award when in payment which will be on your online journal.

Glad you’ve got your claim in

See if you can email your evidences, safer than posting and quicker

Second calling council tax to get an arrangement for any arrears

I've had a letter today to say I'm not eligible for Council Tax Benefit but can appeal.

I only emailed my evidence through on 15/4 and the letter is dated 08/4 so it has crossed. Not sure why it's been sent out though as I'd have thought they'd have waited for the evidence as you get a month to send it in.

One thing it says though is Child Maintenance is classed as income? and the amount on the letter is a per the amount stated on the Annual Review letter from the CMS, but my ex has since paid half this amount and sent me a text confirming this is all he can now afford as he has been been furloughed on basic pay.

I have included that information with my evidence and the new lower amount from him is evident on the bank statement I sent in.

It also says that although my property is in Band C, for Council Tax Support purposes my property band has been restricted to Band A, thereby reducing my liability by £5.xx per week?

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated - thank you in advance.
