Maternity Pay... Sad

Rad2016 · 29/03/2020 16:05

Hi can they expect someone to live on £390 for goodness sake. My normal salary after tax in 1700...ontop of the anxiety I am having with the virus situation this just makes things worse. I feel so low don't even know what to do with myself. Also had a letter from NHS to remain indoors for 12 weeks so going back to work early isn't an option. Sorry no one to moan to 😔😔

It’s £658 a month or should be, where are you getting £390 from?

MyDcAreMarvel · 29/03/2020 16:10

Can you apply for UC they would take the MA £1 for £1 but you will get a housing element if you rent and a child element for the baby as well as standard allowance for yourself. You get child benefit on top.

Rad2016 · 29/03/2020 16:14

I’m not long back from maternity leave and it was around £5/600 per month. Not great but not terrible.

I managed to save about £5k pre mat leave and my husband put more in the pot. We managed. You need to plan ahead.

Sexnotgender · 29/03/2020 16:16

Sorry just realised you’re already on maternity leave. Did you not know how much you would get?

LIZS · 29/03/2020 16:20

Smp is around £140 pw. First pay packets should include 6 weeks at 90% . Yours sounds low. However you should have had a statement of your mp when your ml was confirmed.

AllTheCakes · 29/03/2020 16:20

I don’t understand why you hadn’t already planned for this? Sorry to hear you are struggling, but you can’t be surprised when you would surely check your pay and conditions before going off?

NannyPear · 29/03/2020 16:23

Yes, it's difficult, but most people save in the run up to mat leave to make it easier.

Yours should be more though, unless you pay a very high amount into a pension or something?!

cabbageking · 29/03/2020 16:45

You must be near the end of your 39 weeks perhaps when pay stops?

I would research additional benefits.

MyDcAreMarvel · 29/03/2020 16:55

@Rad2016 yes apply for UC

Babyroobs · 29/03/2020 18:52

Does your partner have a wage coming in? Claiming UC will depend on his wage too.

lockdownstress · 30/03/2020 10:53

Did you not save a bit went on mat leave to cover this?

lockdownstress · 30/03/2020 10:54

Before you went on mat leave

Rad2016 · 30/03/2020 19:30

Hi guys guys my phone dropped in water and couldn't get it working till now. I did save over 4k before pregnancy but recently going through a difficult marriage as its in joint account. Still trying to get him to release the money because I only found out he's emptied the bank account. I never thought I'll be in this situation because I had prepared enough. I have nappies that'll last me a few months and some cloths too. Just trying to keep spending very low.
