You need to create an account on the government gateway site. It's laborious, with about 3 login passwords and at the beginning the site keeps taking you in loops. But once in, your pension forecast is there. You can see a breakdown of your NI contributions over the years too. Well worth doing. Just allow 40 mins, pen and notepad plus a tonne of patience.

If you have a Government Gateway log-in you can look up your record online for yourself. Otherwise, you need to complete and send off a BR19 form.... the Gov.uk website has all this info.

It is very easy to do it online ! It is clearly written in non bureaucratic language . There was a bit of an anomaly on the results of mine, which the helpline staff explained easily - not sure of the position of that call centre, at the moment, obviously, but you may well not need that help anyway.

This is the page you need www.gov.uk/check-state-pension

If that’s the verified ID, then yes

Hi I just came across this thread and wondered if anyone could help me. I received a State pension forecast letter at the end of March and the amount is approximately half of the forecast online! I will try to call them to discuss tomorrow but find this really odd and quite worrying in case the letter amount is correct! TIA

How old are you? The online forecast (the figure in big letters in the middle of the page) is based on the assumption that you will carry on earning credits until you reach state retirement age. The smaller number underneath is what you would get at retirement if you never gain another year. I wonder if the letter is giving the lower figure.

airedailleurs · 10/05/2020 18:33

Hi @Spacie I'm 58, and there is no other figure mentioned on the online version. I have paid 37 years' worth of NI contributions, 11 of those voluntary while living and working abroad.
