Tax Credits - temporary suspension of childcare costs

Bit of advice needed - my nursery is not asking for payment while closed which is great, but I'm going to have to tell HMRC this (obviously). I'm a bit worried they'll close my claim and move me over to UC, plus we have absolutely no idea how long nurseries will close for. I could tell them on the Monday and the nursery reopens the next day (granted, this is unlikely). I have just checked on an online benefits calculator and I would be entitled to very minimal child tax credit if there are no childcare costs based on my wage.

When should I tell HMRC? The other option is not telling them until I have a better idea of how long this is likely to go on for, and banking the money for the inevitable overpayment. I'd be happy to do this but it feels dodgy.

Same here. Luckily for me I only get help with the DS breakfast club which is under £10 a week. Due to the change being less the the £10 difference stated I am wondering too if I if I should hold fire and see how long this is likely to last

I’ve phoned tax credits about this today as my children are no longer at the childminders. I am working from home and they are now at home with me. You will not be moved over to universal credit. They will send a letter out with my revised award. They advised me to phone and advise them when childcare resumes again. Got through to them after only 10 minutes on hold, very straightforward.

As my childcare costs are not a difference of £10 either way, online is telling me I don't have to report these changes. I hope that is true. As it wont allow me to input the change anyway
