Divorce settlement

Hi does any body have any experience with a divorce settlement? Once a settlement is agreed and the decree absolute received, how do the monies get paid? Directly from one ex to the other ex via bank transfer? Or are the solicitors involved? If solicitors are involved how are they involved in the transfer of the money?
Thanks guys x

Your X pays his Solicitor, once cleared they send the money to your Solicitor, they wait for it to clear.
They write and say they have it, ask you where you want it, you sign paperwork they send it to your bank.

Thanks for the reply I appreciate it.
Just to clarify. The ex paying the settlement pays it to the solicitor, who then pays it to the other solicitor who then pays it to the receiver ?
In what form do the solicitors receive the money ? Cheque or in their back ?

It’ll be a bacs payment

coco2011 · 23/03/2020 20:03

@Soontobe60 so it goes from ex's bank to his solicitors bank then to my solicitors bank then to my bank? Or direct from the ex to me? I'm asking because my solicitor says he's received no settlement from the other side but I assumed the money got transferred from the ex to me

My best friend did it a year ago.
Bank Transfers
It goes via solicitors, usually they take their cut. Also there was something about paying outstanding joint bills.

Nothing via solicitors in my case.
We knew what we agree to in the Consent Order, and we’d already made all the transfers ourselves.

It's so confusing I don't actually know how I'm going to get paid. It's not possible to communicate with the ex. I have no way of knowing how I will get the money. Worried about contacting my solicitor and incurring more charged!

Ok , more details needed.
Does he have the cash to pay you?
What were you awarded?
If a house sale it took a year for friend to pay her EH. She dragged it out.

coco2011 · 24/03/2020 12:10

Yes has the cash and has agreed to pay a lump sum of £5000

All you can do is wait.
Your going to find it hard to make him pay up.
Let's hope he pays soon.

He's got 56 days so until 6th April I just wish I had a clue as to how it's coming. Via solicitors or not via solicitors
