DS(21) - benefits interim?

DS(21) was studying at uni but struggling with health & MH (he has disabilities) and has applied to defer. He had a p/t job but didn't pass the 90 day probation. So, now will be getting no student loan or work money. He lives at home with me. I'm not working (was his carer for years but also got disabilities). He had been applying for jobs, but tbh I'm not sure he is in the right place for now.

I don't know if he would be entitled to any benefits, what they might be or how to apply. He gets PIP & has done for years.

Or should we just muddle on for now? I get PIP too, but obvs money is very tight.

I haven't been able to address any of this yet as I've not been well and struggling badly with my own MH, and it's all feeling so overwhelming.

He can claim Universal credit and if he hands in sick notes he will be assessed for work capability after a few months. Until then he may have to attend some work commitment interviews but if he has a sick note he shouldn't have to do too much.

@Babyroobs thank you for that info. I've been trying to get him to see our GP but I'll push him harder while he's not doing so well. Thanks again.
