Help! Please! Pregnant and left job to start a job I can no longer start

I am 16 weeks pregnant. Living in UK. I am 24 and have worked in care since I was 18 and have always loved being a care worker. I recently changed care company and left my old one end of December 2019 and began at my new company middle of jan 2020 - Feb 2020, I got offered a Job and a nursing scholarship within the NHS so handed my notice in already as it was an opportunity I could not turn down and was so excited to start. I was due to start end of feb and just worked my notice at my previous job, and found out this week that I am almost 17 weeks pregnant! I have told the my new employer but they aren't willing to start me until after I have had the baby and my maternity leave is over but the offer is still there (luckily enough) so looking to start that next year. I have contacted my previous employer which were happy to take me back at first but then found out I was pregnant and was no longer interested in having me back. I'm going to really struggle. My boyfriend has a job and we have our own place together that we rent, we both have a car, but after all the bills are paid we aren't even left with enough to do a food shop. Never mind having a baby on the way, I am looking for part-time job in a cafe /pub/ cleaning atm that hopefully will take me on being pregnant but I've been unlucky so far. I am wanting to sign on to get benefits to help us but don't think we will be entitled to much with my partner working, (benefits has never been an option for me, i have worked since I was 14 but it seems like my last resort now) the money is needed. I need advice on benefits and what help I can get or what to do that could benefit me the most in this situation, We really need all the help we can get we're really going to struggle. I'm planning on going back to work 6 months after having the baby, part-time because we won't manage without. Any help would be highly appreciated, please no judgy comments, I've wanted to fall pregnant for 2 years now but didn't think I was able to do this is a blessing for us. But just the way it's fell with work I have been really unlucky.

Sounds like pregnancy discrimination if they have rescinded the job offer after finding out about your pregnancy. You didnt need to tell them about the pregnancy until you were 25 weeks pregnant.

I’m not sure this is legal OP. I’d look into it if I were you. Also - you don’t need to tell them about the pregnancy so keep it to yourself for now.

Congratulations :-)

Do you have that offer in writing and have evidence that they have taken back (rescinded) their offer? They're not allowed to do that, at all.

If you have been working up until your pregnancy, you should be entitled to maternity allowance provided you fulfil certain conditions about hours worked and money earned.

That's not the point though as OP needs money right now, not when maternity leave starts. They cant use pregnancy as an excuse to delay or remove a job offer

PumpkinPie2016 · 20/02/2020 14:30

Sorry to hear this OP. Can you contact ACAS for some advice regarding your NHS job? They cannot rescind their offer because you are pregnant so above all else, you need to get it in writing that the offer is still there. ACAS should be able to help you with this.

I'm not sure why they won't start you until after your maternity leave has ended? If you are only 17 weeks pregnant, you still potentially have around 20 weeks before you finish for maternity-assuming you finish around 38 weeks? Did they say why? Again, ACAS should be able to help here.

In terms of money in the meantime, try CAB to see what you are entitled to and when. Claim all you are entitled to.

Do please check and double check the situation with the NHS job and ensure you get everything in writing.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I've reported your post, now is not an appropriate time to recruit someone into a mlm.
