Barclays Blue Rewards?

Does anyone else have Barclays Blue Rewards? What do you do with it?

I’ve had it for around a year. I’ve never used the cash back on shopping part of it. As far as I can tell, I pay £4 for them to deposit £7 into my Blue Rewards “wallet” (account). I’ve never touched the wallet, and now have around £80 odd in there.

Do I just keep letting it accumulate? Move it to a savings account? What do you do?

You get more if you have other products with them (mortgage, or insurance). Cash back is a bit fiddly but worth doing - rates vary from 1%-10% depending on who they’ve partnered with. They do change so worth checking now and again. If you like a lot of takeaways (like me Blush) then even JustEat is on there.

We usually save ours up and then spend it at Christmas. Both DH and I usually have over £100 a year - not bad for doing nothing!

I have this. I've just got into a habit of transferring the £12 into my premier account (everyday spending) each month. Good for you saving it though! I'm not sure what else it's for. I'll keep doing it because I'm £8 better off a month (how sad is that?!). If anyone else can explain, I'd be interested too.

Coldhandscoldheart · 02/02/2020 16:19

Oh hang on? Don’t you get the cash back automatically? I thought that was where the money came from. Bah.

LittleRa · 02/02/2020 16:22

ATowelAndAPotato Yes that’s what I was thinking, keep it for Christmas. I’ll look more into using the cash back but and see if it would be worth it for me (don’t want to start buying stuff for the sake of it). How do you do it?
Legallybleachblonde well I haven’t got in the habit of transferring it across to spend it, so it’s just sort of sitting there accumulating (albeit a small amount at a time) but if I got to the end of the month and was desperate it’s good to know I could dip into it, or if I had an unexpected expense under £100 eg needed a new tyre on car or something. It just goes to show how putting just a little away (£7 in my case as I don’t have any additional products with them) does build up over time without you really noticing.

Ooh just looked and I have£100

Coldhandscoldheart · 02/02/2020 16:35

Arg! It doesn’t work like I thought at all! Oh well, still a bit of money back I suppose.

LittleRa · 02/02/2020 16:37

Coldhandscoldheart How were you thinking it worked, and what have you discovered about how it does work?! I’m slightly confused by it too so any insight appreciated!

You need to go into “your rewards” on the app, and then browse cash back.
You use the app to click through to the relevant site and then order and pay online.
It works by tracking your cookies, so you have to enable that on your phone (and make sure you complete your transaction) or the cash back won’t be applied automatically.

I find it easier to make sure I am logged into, say, the Boots website, then add whatever I want into my basket first.
Then I go into the Barclays app and click through to Boots, where it should have your basket saved so you can just check out.

Thank you!

I thought that it paid the rewards just whenever you used your debit card at a participating retailer Blush through, I dunno, magic?

AlohaMolly · 02/02/2020 19:46

I have the £7 rewards thing and like that it’s just there. My aim is to leave it to accumulate but I’ve only got £14 as I’ve had to dip in regularly in 2019 Blush I forget regularly about the cash back but I also use another of their rewards that is like a weekly DD into another wallet. I set it to a £1 but will increase!

MyuMe · 02/02/2020 19:48

I've never signed up. Is it worth having?

Dinosauraddict · 02/02/2020 19:53

I love my blue rewards (although it used to be better when it was £3 not £4 a month)! I wait until it's in the £100s then transfer it out for something specific (I think last time was some house upgrade it covered).

LittleRa · 02/02/2020 19:54

Coldhandscoldheart Ah that would be good though!

Last time I was in the branch I asked them if that would happen (the automatic cash back if you use a cash back partner), and they said it was something they were looking at so maybe they will one day!

Keepmewarm · 05/02/2020 20:26

I just move it to my savings account every so often.
