Hiya,

Could someone please explain how SSPP works?
I read that you get 90% of your normal wage for the first 6 weeks and then it drops down to the standard £148 smp for the rest of the 39 weeks. Can only one of you at a time claim the £148? Or could we both take 3 months off and both claim it? Also, if we both took the first 6 weeks off, would we both get 90% of our normal pay or just one of us? Sorry if these are stupid questions!

Shared parental pay doesnt have a 6 weeks of 90% of normal wage, it is a straight £148ish or 90% whichever is lower.. I think the mother could be on SMP while the partner takes Shared Parental pay as long as the mother gives notice to end her leave/pay early
