Lent money

My daughters dad and his wife asked me to lend them 3k for there rent ARREARS because his wife came crying to my home also lent them 1k for holiday saying they would pay me back ive bank statements to prove what they borrowed will a small claims court be of any use im a single disabled person and really need the money back they originally owed me 4500 and only gave me £400 pounds back now non of them wont reply to my calls and txts.

Do you have anything in writing acknowledging the loan, payment terms, etc.? If not, you're likely SOL.

The bank statements only prove that you handed them the money. They won't prove that it was a loan. You gave them money for rent arrears, AND a holiday?

I suggest you draw up a replay,ent plan, get them to sign it then if they don't pay it back you can take them to the small claims court as you will have their signature saying they do owe it to you.

Do you have proof of any of this - even a text message saying “can’t pay you this month” will show they knew they agreed to repay it.

The first lend was because they both came to my home his wife was crying because they was getting evicted so they agreed to pay me back 300 a month and the other money was from a holiday to greece because i went with my dd1 and family and they wanted to come with us.they have only paid 400 back and now wont answer my calls or txts

You were a fool.
You won’t see that again unless you have it in writing that it was a loan in which case take it down small claims court route.

Ive got some txt that he sent me ive forwards them to my dd1 so will ask her later if she has them .

The texts will definitely uphold the claim but to be fair even the repayments already made show that the money was lent rather than gifted. I think the tricky bit would be to prove which one of them you lent to. Maybe contact citizens advice - I'm sure there's legal help you could have access to. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted. Unfortunately I think they've thoroughly taken advantage of your good nature.

Well that’s pretty clear that they are promising to pay the full amount. I would go to small claims court and not give them any longer. Nasty people.

Hope they pay the debt, it will probably dribs and drabs. Good luck, if they don’t pay anything more then try the Small Claims court. For future do not lend them money again
