Advice needed - lost engagement and wedding ring

I’m so upset! I’ve lost my engagement and wedding ring totalling up to £10,000. Its insured on home insurance valued at £14,500. The rings were bought 2.5 years ago. I still have kept the certificate and receipt. Last time I remember was wearing it at Bluewater shopping centre on Sunday, I never take it off in public. Now I’ve been at home and only just realised yesterday it’s not on my hand anymore. I take it off only at home; showering, in kitchen doing dishes, changing my baby, drying my hair or going to sleep. I can’t believe I can’t find it. I’ve searched everywhere, moving furniture and emptying everything as if I were moving house. The ring is insured separately at £14,500 with £500 excess. Insurance covers; loss, theft, damage and abroad. How can I be so stupid to lose my ring at home? I’m certain of it but I can’t find it anywhere. I’m worried if I tell my insurance they will reject my story as last time I remember wearing my rings was when I was out shopping, but I never take it off unless home. Would they reject that?

Last time I lost my wedding ring it was found inside a rubber glove.

Have you checked in the pockets and lining of your changing bag? They may have come off when you were reaching in to get a nappy, wipes etc.

Check any bags you had with your shopping in to see if they have fallen into them. If you have been wrapping gifts maybe check those too as they may have slipped inside the wrapping paper or gift bags.

Hope they turn up OP.

Have you managed to do another search of your house and car? Any luck with the shopping centre to check if they were handed in?

How awful for you, OP, I hope they turn up soon! I lost a ring (my decreased grandma's engagement ring) about a year ago and turned the house upside down whilst sobbing uncontrollably. Then unloaded the washing machine and there it was, it had been pulled off my hand as I over stuffed the machine! I hadn't noticed it happen at the time so I understand how scary it is when you suddenly notice it's missing. Fingers crossed for you x

Have you checked the rubber seal of washer and the dryer filter? That’s where my friend found hers many years ago. Hope you find it soon

MLMsuperfan · 18/12/2019 11:21

Did you find it OP?

Ellisandra · 18/12/2019 12:13

If you take them off to shower and do dishes, don’t you take them off to wash your hands? In which case, surely you took them off after changing your baby when out? That seems the most likely time to have lost them.

Good luck with either finding them, or the claim. I’m amazed that insuring expensive jewellery just for loss is a viable business!

I haven't taken mine off once in 15 years. I must be the odd one out.

I hope you find it, it's horrid to lose anything let alone something so special.

OxiBrilloRange · 18/12/2019 22:41

In your purse?

Sparklyring · 04/01/2020 21:34

Did they turn up??

Betsy86 · 04/01/2020 21:45

Really hope they show up op. I lost a necklace appeared 3 weeks later in the filter of the washing machine which i had checked twice already but it took a while to come through. So don't lose hope xxx

I lost my engagement ring, the beginning of the year of our 25th wedding anniversary. I'd lost weight, and noticed the ring was getting loose but stupidly didn't take it off. I was walking the dog (very muddy footpaths) locally, got my phone out of my back pocket of my jeans several times and realised my ring was gone when I got home. Walked that way every day for weeks, even got a villager with a metal detector to walk it with me, but never found it.

One word of warning - we were talked into replacing the ring via the insurance company jeweller, and I can't tell you how disappointed I am with the replacement. It looks cheap, feels cheap and certainly nothing like the quality of my original ring which DH had made for me by a local jewellery designer. I must get it valued independently........ as I can't see it's worth anything like what they estimated it at.
