Postal orders???

Hi all
I received a postal order for a Christmas present for my child from a family member in Ireland. I’ve never had a postal order before so not sure how to use them? I’ve done some googling but not got very far - the postal order is branded Santander (I have a Santander account but mainly use hsbc). It says from the general post office, Dublin. Can I take this to the post office and exchange for cash? Or would I have to bank it? Thanks for any replies x

It depends if the postal order has been 'crossed' with 2 lines as that means it needs paying into a bank account. Is it in sterling? If not crossed I would take it to the post office with ID to cash it
