I can't believe this has been going for nearly a year! I feel rather emotional Blush

I'll pop the list up in a second for any newcomers.

Here's to a fantastic December, and bolstered bank balances for January!

Ok looked on chat and seems lots of ppl having same problem so will wait for appen to resolve issue.

anxiouswaiting · 03/12/2019 12:43

@toastytea it's happened every month for a few months now. Usually within a week invoices are working again

anxiouswaiting · 03/12/2019 16:52

Nooo there is lots of work on my Appen peojects today and the numbers are foing down quick. My real job is reallt getting in the way! I don't get home till 7.30, will probably all be gone by then booooo

Catatemyhomework · 03/12/2019 17:08

Thanks to this thread, I am now on Appen. Just signed my agreement. Haven't had a proper read but looks like quite a lot of projects available. I am really excited! Thanks everyone for your inspiration. Now for the hard part.....

Catatemyhomework · 03/12/2019 19:40

Ok, so failed first appen test. Slightly embarrassed as it was a language test. I don't know, I read the guidance pretty carefully, BUT I am now doubting my own abilities in English language and grammar! Following guidance to not use a capital letter if the only reason to do so is that the word is at the start of a sentence. Confused now and thinking that I, he, she, etc should start with a capital letter as pronouns, although this is not specified in guidance materials. Just wondered if anyone else might be doing these tests too? I think I'm overthinking it and making mistakes.

seizethecuttlefish · 03/12/2019 19:52

There's always work on Appen when I can't get time to do it!
Anyone else got a barrage of emails from Appen asking you to reapply for stuff you've already done? I'm working on a project and just got sent a link to the assessment again.

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 03/12/2019 19:57

No Nov total for me as i'm still waiting for my invoice to update!

However, i've just got 92% on the Elk** weekly quiz so i'm well happy, a vast improvement on the last one. :-)

Frenchdoors1 · 03/12/2019 20:03

I've had 2 emails today from appen inviting me to do two projects which I didn't apply for as I have no experience with them! Hmm

Invite me to the ones I 'did' apply for and 'can do'

Thanks mumofone, it was a test of English language and grammar for some transcription work. Basically writing what you hear, but including correct use of grammar, punctuation, etc. The guidance is quite complicated though, 18 pages in fact and I don't think you really needed it for the test itself. I think I may have over complicated it. Anyway, failed first attempt and been too scared to do second in case I fail it again. It would be my first potential project. Be good to get one under my belt.

otterses · 04/12/2019 08:45

Not as constructive as I'd have liked to have been the last few days. DH's deployment has been moved up and my heads just been all over the place. I sense I'll be needing a kick up the arse at some point this month to get my shit together and start earning properly.

Promotion application is nearly done, just the cover letter to finish. I'm trying not to get my hopes up over this one - though it would be an extra £400 odd a month!

Finally had all my hours added to my appen invoice so submitted that, should get about £715 :)

I was also approached by my university last week and had a meeting yesterday - they want to bring me on as an hourly paid lecturer in the new year for about 12 weeks (for 3 hours a week) to deliver some lectures to first years. I'm touched and gobsmacked! My dream job, man years down the line, would be to lecture, so this could be a good start! Not to mention it will add some ££ to the pot :)

rhij86 · 04/12/2019 08:49

@Otterses sounds like a hectic time! We're here to kick if you need it though!
Good luck with the promotion - everything crossed for you :)

justtheonethen · 04/12/2019 09:20

@rhij86 that's fabulous well done!

@otterses that sounds tough. Here for a gentle kick up the arse if needed.

I just passed the Annotation one on Appen!

rhij86 · 04/12/2019 09:43

@justtheonethen thank you, and well done :)

seizethecuttlefish · 04/12/2019 09:47

@rhij86 whoop whoop. Well done!
@otterses sending you loads of positive thought. That's loads to be going on with. Breathe and go from there.

MoreMoneyPlease · 04/12/2019 09:48

Well done @rhij86, that's amazing. My friend is a casual lecturer and she's on a great hourly rate Smile

@Otterses Good luck with the promotion and hope everything else works out.

@justtheonethen Well done, on the annotation test. Did that one twice and failed. Think I was laughing too much at the swearing child!

MoreMoneyPlease · 04/12/2019 09:51

With Appen projects, do you just sign up to all the ones you're eligible for? I'm working on two, which is about as much as I can cope with hours wise, but I don't know when they'll end so should I just keep signing up to everything I can?

rhij86 · 04/12/2019 09:51

@seizethecuttlefish @moremoneyplease thank you.

I'm not sure what they're paying me yet, my lecturer wasn't sure of the hourly rate and I'm waiting for the contract info to come through from their HR/payroll. But TBH it will be such a massive boost for my confidence, a great way to get a foot in the door not to mention looking great on my CV and helping towards professional chartership that I almost don't care what the pay is!

rhij86 · 04/12/2019 09:52

@MoreMoneyPlease I apply for everything I think I'm qualified for/capable of. It's better to be offered too many and have to turn something down than to not have enough work there!

seizethecuttlefish · 04/12/2019 10:11

@MoreMoneyPlease apply for everything you're eligible for. I have 14 in progress. There is no guarantee of getting in to them. I'm nearly 6 months on Appen and this is the most work I've had. The work waxes and wanes on projects so I find it hard to do all the hours I need sometimes.

MoreMoneyPlease · 04/12/2019 10:14

Anyone done the Sikta test? I'm stuck on a particular question and I only get one stab at it!

Catatemyhomework · 04/12/2019 10:55

So I failed the test again. The project has gone now. I must be really stupid I think. The guidance is not straight forward. I ended the sentences with fullstops and didn't start with a capital letter unless a noun or pronoun. Used correct possessive and plural punctuation I think. Feeling a bit dishearted now. Must dust myself down and carry on. Hope there is something I can pass.

rhij86 · 04/12/2019 11:04

@catatemyhomework please don't feel stupid - a few of us have failed multiple appen tests which seem really straightforward - people from all walks of life, from low education to degrees and post grad work - they can be really tough for anyone! don't give up :)

DontCallMeDarling · 04/12/2019 11:27

Good luck with everything @Otterses and @rhij86
