Life Insurance cancellation-advice needed

Hi, we are in the process of reviewing our insurance policies and need to get better life insurance. I have left this with husband as he is on garden leave. He has just informed me that he has cancelled our old policy but we have not yet been approved for a new one.
He is convinced that we are insured for 30 days after the last premium (so to the end of this month.) The letter from the old company says "I can confirm cancellation of this plan with effect from 20 Oct" I read this as we have no insurance from that date. Can't find anything in the T&C's, who is right?
Thanks

If he had cancelled the policy by virtue of simply cancelling your direct debit then he would kind of be right because the insurance company would have written to you to say the direct debit had failed and you could reinstate the policy by making up the missed premium if you did it within 30 days. But it sounds as though he has contacted them directly and told them that he's cancelling the policy, which you would normally do if you'd got a replacement policy ready to go in force and you wanted to make sure that there was no overlap in premiums/to make sure direct debit was definitely cancelled at both ends. Which means that you are right.

Has he actually applied for a new policy yet? Unless you get accepted immediately then it could take more than 30 days to get underwriting approval if there was anything they weren't happy about, so he has been a bit too hasty.
