Can anyone offer advice / experience with an IVA?

I have £10,000 worth of debt, unemployed, single parent to 3 DC. I just want to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Do you own property or have other assets? An IVA might be appropriate if you do, but no-one can say without going through all your incomings and outcomings and looking at your situation in general such as whether you are likely to get another job soon and how much you will be earning.

If you don't own any property and don't have any disposable income, which is likely to be the case as you're unemployed, a debt relief order is probably suitable.

In any case, you need to put together a list of your incomings and outgoings, known as statement of affairs to show whoever ends up advising you - you need to contact Stepchange or CAB. Also the debt advice section of Moneysavingexpert is likely to be much better than here. How long have you been unemployed and have you applied for benefits? With 3 DC, you should be able to get enough to put food on the table, if nothing else.

You should also stop paying your debts and use whatever money you have for food, bills etc - many people try to keep up with debt payments and then don't have money for food and bills, which is the wrong way round.

Good luck.
