I just ran out of electric and put the £5 emergency on how long will that last as I have 2 kids under age of 2 and I don't get paid till Thursday and I don't know what to do of it goes out as there's no one I can ask to lend money to get electric as my youngest is 3 months and she needs bottles of my emergency runs out I won't be able to give her any bottles what do I do

How much do you normally top up by a week/month?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 17/09/2019 15:00

I suppose how long it will last will depend on how many appliances you have etc. Hard to say

There's done helpful info here about contacting your supplier. It would be best to call them now befire you run out www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/energy/energy-supply/get-help-paying-your-bills/you-cant-afford-to-top-up-your-prepayment-meter/

ThePhoenixRises · 17/09/2019 15:31

Once you get below 50p, you can call the electric company, someone should be able to come out and loan your meter, a few pounds more for the emergency, so you won't run out.

Huggybear16 · 17/09/2019 15:33

£5 should last until Thursday. It's only a day and a half.

Sophie200000 · 18/09/2019 11:58

I have no signal in my erea so it will be hard to call them

20 a week

Could you message your supplier? Or email them?
And hopefully the £5 top up will be sufficient until tomorrow. I think it should be if £20 works for a week.

You’ll be absolutely fine. Don’t run anything non essential - washing can wait another day, for example. Remember when you next top up it will last slightly less because you’ll be paying back whatever you used of the emergency.

My sympathies, OP; i don’t know how people manage on a prepay Meter, it would do my head in!

TwattingDog · 18/09/2019 12:19

Then you need to go where you do have phone signal, or use WiFi calling. You have Internet signal - are you using house WiFi? See if your electricity supplier has an online chat facility.

Call your Health Visitor team, you have a 3mth old, and discuss with them as well.

Hello everyone,

We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circumstances, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. Though, we strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon.

£5 should last a day, as others say, contact your supplier.

Hidingtonothing · 18/09/2019 12:25

My emergency £5 will easily last a couple of days so you should be absolutely fine til Thursday OP.

timshelthechoice · 18/09/2019 12:27

A fiver will last as long as you don't run the washing machine or put the oven on. Do speak to your HV, though.

Wtfdoipick · 18/09/2019 12:28

Don't do anything that isn't essential but if £20 lasts you 7 days normally then £5 will last till tomorrow.
