Df has recently informed me he has 50 grand of debt and is struggling to pay everything on time. He is self employed and has had regular work for 12 months and an extension till next year. We bought our flat 18 months ago but have little equity in it. We were considering a secured loan but because of employment status and lack of equity it look unlikely for him. I am reluctant to put all that debt on my own record. Please can anyone help me with advice as I have nobody to talk to.

hi reznor, sorry to hear you are going through this. I guess you had no idea the debt was so bad? Have you tried speaking to the CAB? I would get an appt with them ASAP, they are usually v good with this sort of thing.

Thanks for replying Paddington, have had another night of avoiding the issue with him. No, I had no idea the debt was so bad, will try the CAB.

Reznor, I'd suggest you pop over to the Motley Fool's Dealing With Debt board. Things may be a little bit slow at the weekend but hopefully you will be able to get some seriously useful advice. The link I've posted is to the 'Welcome' post which takes you through the type of information that the posters (and the CAB for that matter) will need in order to be able to help you.

Awful as it is, your story won't be unfamiliar over there. Best of luck.

Thanks tribpot, I'll have a look at that site.
