Got an email yesterday from the PPI company i was using to say one of the companies had replied that they had no detail of me, odd given that they send a monthly paper statement to my address, in my name. Got the PPI company to email me the original letter and my DOB is wrong by one digit ! This is of course is my fault as I should have read the document more carefully before sending it back to them. They now say there is nothing more to be done as past the deadline.
So basically all companies needed to do was send a not known reply about everyone who's details were not absolutely 100% correct after the deadline to avoid paying anything. And there is nothing at all to be done about it now , even though the initial enquiry was made well in advance of the deadline ?

Correct, the PPI providers only need to act on the information you provide to them.

Why do you believe you were missold PPI?

But all the information was correct except the year of my birth , they send me a monthly statement to the name and address stated on the original letter, but cannot find any record of me on their system because of a one digit difference in dob ? I think what irks me is that if i had been told this within the deadline then i could have rectified it iyswim, but they didn't get back to me until yesterday, at which point it is too late. Ah well.

If your claim was lodged before the deadline, carry on with it.
THe banks are budgeting two years to clear the backlog (as per the Economist)

But the PPI company are saying there is nothing more they can do, so do i need to contact the lender myself ? But the PPI company sent the letter so if i contact the lender would they not say too late and see me contacting them as a new approach ?

Try contacting the lender directly - lots of the PPI companies are fly by night.
If your claim was lodged before the deadline and you persuade the folks at the lender call centre that its you and them against the claim company, it might be OK
