Emergency tax help

I have just started a new job and been paid for the first time (despite giving my P45 on the first of the month!) I've paid about £200 more in tax than I should have done. I've been told it should all be ok next month, will I get the £200 back next month or am I likely to just have my tax code adjusted? Would really rather the cash whole!

Once the P45 is processed then the payroll software will recalculate the total Income Tax due to date and will adjust the next payslip accordingly, you may find it has a rebate on it, often marked by the letter r next to a figure.

You have already spoken to payroll I assume as you say you have been told it should be ok next month. So I would be anticipating that next months payslip will have a rebate on it.

If not sorted, then you ring HMRC. Or login if you have an account. Had to do this, recently.
