Alternative to student loan

My partner has been denied a student loan as he needs to change courses and complete a 1st year in a new course.

We have made an appeal but if this doesn’t get accepted, then the year won’t be funded and will need to be paid for.

He has a job but it’s not high earning, is there options to get a bank loan (is it unlikely to be approved in your early 20s with no evidence of paying back lenders before)?

It says about paying in 3 instalments but they will still be £3-4k, does anyone have any ideas? Thank you

I dread to think what that said to get deleted at that time of day Confused

3 options I can think of

  1. Speak to the university's welfare fund departments. They might have provisions for this type of situation.
  1. A career development loan is designed for this purpose.
  1. Complete his first year and then transfer to another course.
