Really Stupid Question about Socks but I need advice!!

This is a genuine question!!
I've been given a lot of brand new sportswear for all ages, mainly socks (ranging from Boy's size 12-3 up to Men's size 12-14) and shorts (ranging from size 32" - 36") to sell and have advertised them but I am having real problems shifting them. My question is: Would you rather buy the socks as a pack of 2 or a pack of 3? I've currently got them on as 2 pairs for £3 but I'm thinking maybe 3 pairs at £4 might be more useful. Similarly, I've got the shorts on as 2 pairs but would you rather buy 2 pairs or 3 pairs? I don't know anyone with young kids to ask? I'm not advertising as I've not put where they are for sale - just want to know which package mums would go for most. Thanks in advance!!

I personally wouldn't buy packs of just 2 or 3, I look for at least 5 pairs as my kids seem to get their socks manky.

coconuttelegraph · 01/08/2019 12:21

Sorry but that is a stupid question, "mums" don't have one common preference for their sock buying

SuzieSunshine · 01/08/2019 12:24

Good point - Would you consider buying 5 pairs for £7.50 or could I get away with 5 pairs for £10? There's £3 postage on top. (Sorry I don't mean it to sound like I'm trying to sell them to you!!) I just want to get shot of the bloody socks/shorts now - they are all good quality and brand new.

They've got to be cheaper than you can buy them in the shops, or no one is going to be interested.

SuzieSunshine · 01/08/2019 12:35

@coconuttelegraph - thank you for taking the time to post a really stupid, unhelpful and pointless reply. I genuinely want to know how to sell these socks and what package would attract mums to buy them - if it doesn't concern you then butt out and mind your own business.

I agree with @Sycamoretrees - need to be cheaper than I could get them in Asda when I go for my shopping!
I don't bother buying good quality socks as they end up minging regardless 🤷‍♀️

rideawhiteswan · 01/08/2019 12:55

I'm sorry that's just too expensive, I've just bought some good quality mens sports socks at £12 for 5 from Marks and Spencer, no postage to pay.
You need to lower your prices so they're cheaper than the shops including postage to sell them easily.

SuzieSunshine · 01/08/2019 13:00

I somehow need to ditch the postage costs - will try a local selling site.
Thanks - TheCanyon, Sycamoretrees & ChangesAt30, your comments were really useful :)

I wouldn't buy second hand socks full stop - I know you have stated they are new but if your re-packaging them how does the buyer know that?

Eustasiavye · 01/08/2019 13:06

I agree with others. I would only buy them if they were cheaper than say Asda socks.
I would also question whether they were genuine, if it is a well known sports brand.
As for amounts I would prefer to buy at least 3 pairs of socks, probably more.
As for shorts I would buy one pair.

SuzieSunshine · 01/08/2019 13:21

They are all genuine, branded and already packaged so def not second hand and I got them from a reliable sports outlet. They were surplus stock/ex-display or something and they were giving them away. ATM I have a back bedroom filled with 100 pairs of socks and 60 pairs of shorts and that's after I've given loads away. Will plough on!!

I would do a car boot and flog them all off in one day!

huuskymam · 01/08/2019 16:35

I'd buy 3 if I had to, but prefer a pack of 5 or 7, especially for my boys who are superb at losing them 🙄🙄

Knitclubchatter · 01/08/2019 16:43

It would have to be cheaper than Costco, have you gone there to see what big box retail prices are.

Teacakeandalatte · 01/08/2019 16:53

7 for £10 inc postage

fromdownwest · 01/08/2019 17:08

I assume that you will be declaring the proceeds to HMRC.

ChangesAt30 · 01/08/2019 18:24

Could be worth trying your local Facebook/gum tree selling page?

Could even offer to deliver Grin

RebootYourEngine · 02/08/2019 03:52

Where are you advertising them? eBay I assume.

I would not buy socks anywhere other than a shop. As another poster said I do not know of they are real, or new.
