Just curious did your parents help with a house deposit? And how much? I recently bought a house but couldn't have done without the help really.

Nope, no help at all. But we first bought at a time when 100% mortgages were the norm.

No currently saving for one now with no help. There won’t be a big inheritance either

Nutellaontoast19 · 28/07/2019 22:51

Same as @Ffsnosexallowed for us.

No. Although PIL bought the house cash after we were initially refused a mortgage as the house was in desperate need of renovation. We did the required work, paid for everything ourselves and then were able to get a mortgage and buy the house from PIL.
So they did enable us to buy a £19,000 house but we paid for it ourselves. We had 4K deposit IIRC.

£19000 house? When was this?

Xyzzzzz · 29/07/2019 08:37

Nope saved it ourselves, whilst living in rented.

Lots of people do get gifted deposits guess’s it depends on circumstances

Yes we got help. Then used some inheritance to move to a bigger place. Am so thankful for the help; unless something changes dramatically with the property market, I suspect our kids will be living with us until they're about 30!!
