Child benefit / NI credits

Hello all,

Inspired by another thread as it hit me thinking .... any advice appreciated !

I am on my second mat leave. During my first I had 39 weeks maternity allowance then 13 weeks unpaid, claimed child benefit. Now on second mat leave, get 16 weeks (I think) OMP, 23 weeks SMP then 13 unpaid ....
Only had 5 months back at work between Mat leaves.

I’ve never actively claimed any ni credits while on mat leave and am worried that (besides the omp portion ) I’ve lost out on many weeks credits (class 3?). I’m married if that makes a difference ....

Does claiming Chilf benefit automatically trigger the NI contributions whilst on mat leave it should I be doing something now? I’d like to keep up to date .

Thanks all,

A very frazzled mum of 2under2

Look on www.gov.uk
With your NI number
It will tell you exactly how much you have paid in each year
