Help - we are needing to relocate for my partner to have full time work. We have a 2.5yr old and are trying for baby number 2. He has been offered a great role in Timaru but I really can't get myself to like the place, on the other hand I would love to move back to Nelson and we might be able to get enough work but it wouldn't be as good or as stable as the Timaru role. Do we take the Timaru job and settle somewhere we don't like or do we move to the place we love but could struggle financially?? We are wanting this move to me long term - where we will put our kids through school etc so it is a big decision. Any advice would be greatly appreicated!

I’m from the UK and have actually been to both Timaru and Nelson and can see why you’d choose Nelson!

But- are you clear about what exactly you don’t like about Timaru? Would being more secure financially mean you could do more ‘stuff’ as a family, days out/ weekends away/ general travelling etc? This for me would be a significant plus point.

Have you also had a much of a look at the type of property you could afford there too?

hey paddybare, thanks so much for your reply, so Timaru is more affordable to buy but we aren't in a position to do that yet - there are a lot more rentals available in Nelson than Timaru. I think what I don't like about TImaru is its climate, no family anywhere close, city layout/is really busy (I know nelson is busy but we would live out in RIchmond which isn't)...
