ScoobyDooooo · 27/07/2007 19:03

Pabamella · 27/07/2007 19:04

what type of valve is it

a screw thing? what is it for??

is it like a tap with a lever on top or do you need a screwdriver to do something to it

either way you dont need a engineer to do that

you can do it yourself says my boiler engineer dh

Trinityrhino · 27/07/2007 19:07

noone needs to be corgi registered to shut something off

or am I misuderstanding what your tyring to do

sorry

Pabamella · 27/07/2007 19:08

its just a pipe going from under the floor to the gas fire, the connection needs to be stopped and a cap or something put on to make sure no gas leaks.

My dh can do the rest - remove the old gas fire once there so supply and fit the new electric one.

Surely if its gas its best to get someoone in to do it?

Isnt it illegal to do that sort of stuff yourself ... got to be corgi registered to mess about with gas supplies and all that?

OP posts:
Trinityrhino · 27/07/2007 19:12

right yeah
if its a pipe that needs to be opened at a joint and then capped then yes you need a corgi reg. man

if you were just shutting off a tap then you can do that yourself

you probaly dont want to hear this but dh said if you lived up here he'd do it for you for a tenner

sorry

Pabamella · 27/07/2007 19:14

ohhhh whyyy dont you live near me!!

Tinker · 27/07/2007 19:19

Tinker · 27/07/2007 23:39

Hooray

biggitdad · 28/07/2007 15:00

You should call the original guy back and let him know that you have got someone coming round for £20, and I would complain to the Fair trading people as he is advertising as a free call out but then charging, that is misleading and these people should not ba allowed to get away with it.
I got massively ripped off once paid £700 to have someone come out and clear my blocked drains in an emergency. Looking back I can see all the mistakes I made. It Still ranks with me and will do until the day I die I expect.

islandofsodor · 28/07/2007 23:09

We wouldn't quote for a teeny job like that. We give free quotes for things like a new boiler, installing central heating etc.

Shutting off a valve would be a £60 plus VAT call out jobby.
