Universal Credit??

Currently on Tax Credits but have to make a new claim which will see me on Universal Credit. I've heard terrible things about it and I'm really worried. Is there a huge difference in payments?

I am a (now) single mother of 3 and unemployed.

Have you done a calculation online? They will give you an idea of what you will receive.
It was pretty spot on for mine.

Hi thanks, sorry I should have mentioned that I will be starting full time education in September and I can't get a calculation for students online!

All the horror stories are really freaking me out, especially when I can't get an estimate on what it may be.

Uc isn't great for student because most of your student loan is deducted off your Uc amount pound for pound.

How old is your youngest, and what level are you studying at? Is OU/ part time study an option?

ncqueen · 04/07/2019 23:56

Thank you for your replies. My youngest is 4 and my eldest is 13. OU unfortunately is not an option as I'm doing a law degree with the view to become a lawyer. I've worked really hard for this and it's too good an opportunity to miss for all of us.

I think it's terrible UC does that to students! Trying to better both mine and my children's lives and able to put more in through taxes once I'm qualifiied.

I'm going to need to really consider how to move forward if my children are going to be worse off with me studying rather than taking a minimum wage job. Which is also really difficult as 99% of the time low paid jobs need you to be completely flexible and work unsociable hours (I know, I've been there many times but had a partner) which I can't at the moment.

Gaahhh!!! Thank you for your replies x
