Hey guys,

I am just thinking about my maternity leave and wondered if any of you ladies started any network marketing business and if so to what success you had if any?

If you mean a thinly disguised pyramid scheme I believe some people did temporarily get sucked in by the hype but hopefully escaped before they lost too much money and all their friends
Seriously OP, they tend to target ladies on ML with emotional blackmail “ don’t go back to work and leave your baby” nonsense.
Do some research

I’ve been doing Usborne Books for nearly 4 years so it’s been beneficial enough as a sideline to keep going with it.

It depends what you’re looking for really. It is possible to replace a FT income but realistically very few people will manage this as it’s based on recruiting a large team and numbers are not infinite.

However if you’re looking for a way to earn some extra income (which may be small initially as it takes time to build up) and give you some support & validation outside of being a mum then network marketing can be a good solution.

Just make sure you do your research on the company, the compensation plan, the t&c’s, your mentor and the products. Pick something you can be passionate about and you think you’d have an audience to sell to. Don’t pick a scheme that’s just about recruiting, ensure you can make decent sales from the product too.

You will find most of Mumsnet is very anti MLM and there are some companies that sail too close to being pyramid schemes so that’s why it’s so important to do your research upfront.

So many people end up losing more money than they ever make. There was a good documentary on BBC about Younique and the lengths they go to recruit people which will be worth a watch.

Look at the MLM thread in this topic, although it’s very one sided. Essentially in most cases you aren’t going to make much money unless you recruit so I would be very cautious about doing it. I joined FLP in similar circumstances, struggled to find customers, was no good at recruiting (market now saturated) and ended up losing money overall.
Is there a particular company you are thinking of?

Went to one of there meetings and seemed full of people that had very few friend who liked the sound of there own voices.
