Debt Relief Order

Has anybody ever had one of these? I am paying a loan currently that was gotten out to consolidate silly credit card debt, however my housing benefit has been massively reduced, I have appealed the decision but if my payments remain what they have changed to I literally can’t afford to eat/clothe my children AND pay off the loan at the same time.

Any advice is amazing

Second Stepchange. If you're eligible for a debt relief order they can help you through the process. They'll also let you know what other options are available.

If you can't pay the debt and feed your family then you need to stop payments, or at least reduce to a token amount of £1 per month while you sort out a DRO or other solution.

Do not be bullied into paying more than you can afford at the detriment of your basic expenses. Yes, your credit record will be ruined, but if you have unaffordable debt, it's likely to happen sooner or later and it's best to get on with a solution now, rather than struggling on for years and making little progress.

The Moneysavingexpert debt help section is also useful if it takes time to get an appointment with Stepchange.
