Urgent Cheque question

If I send someone a cheque and its banked before the funds arrive, but won't clear until they have, will it still work?

Provided it's not the same bank it should be okay but you only have 1 or 2 working days leeway I think

funds go into my bank on friday and I was looking to post the cheque tomorrow cause of the strikes. Shall I hold off til wednesday?

Just post date it until the date that the funds will be in your bank account send it anyway and just attach a note to say you've sent it early because of proposed strikes but have post dated it so it doesn't bounce!
