Depositing winnings?!

I won a good amount of cash at the weekend (£6000!!) at a casino. Can I just deposit it at my bank? Or are they going to ask me questions for tax reasons?? If it helps it's still in the casino sealed money bag things...

Would love to pay off my credit card and then treat myself Smile

FYI I'm not a regular gambler and don't plan to become one - this was a complete one off, on the roulette wheel no less Grin but I don't want them to start thinking I'm a money launderer or something!!

Congrats!! that is a massive win.

I am pretty sure that it is £10k that triggers a money laundering investigation. But if this is unusual they may ask some questions. Do you have a receipt copy from the casino that you could show them?

Thank you, I'm pretty chuffed!
I didn't get a receipt, presumably I could go back to the casino and get this? They must keep records right?
Good to know it's usually 10k that would trigger something, I should be okay

It's totally fine, they won't ask any questions. Also, any gambling winnings are tax free anyway. Well done on the win!

It is not really the banks job to investigate you. At most they may ask you where you got it but if you haven't done anything wrong, you haven't got anything to worry about.

They have a responsibility to report suspicious transactions but I can't see anyone being interest in a one off £6,000.

Ok thank you, I'm quite a nervous person by nature. I'm the type that walks through customs at the airport bricking it even though I KNOW I've got nothing to be worried about 🤣 and don't get me started on the scan as you shop tills in Tesco/ convinced I'll be checked and they'll find I've accidentally stolen something ☠️
I'll probably use the self-deposit tills in branch to be safe!
