ssp or esa

Hi all can anyone advise if on a pro Rata pay you would still be entitled to ssp for sick pay even if your pay falls below the £118 a week eg. If you were paid all year and not pro Rata you would get over £118 but only get £100 on average because of how it’s spread out.
If you can’t and they offer esa would your entire claim of tax credits have to be changed to UC just for the temporary esa?
Professionals aren’t able to answer these questions until after a claim is made but it’s too risky if it involves UC and loss of wage so I’m hoping someone who has been in this position can advise the best route to take thanks

Can you not claim contributions based ESA instead which would not mean you need to switch to UC ? You would need to have paid full NI contributions for the last few years.

Thanks I’ll take a look
