Paying of car finance early

Greengreengrass19 · 26/04/2019 09:18

My OH has a lump sum he’d like to use to pay off our car finance - I disagree because we have £3k sitting on credit cards that cost us more in interest but he won’t be told and it’s his money.

HP finance - other than early repayment is there any negative points to paying it off early? I seem to recall seeing something somewhere about paying X amount but letting the last DD come out. Is that a thing and if so why?

Thanks!!

Always pay off the most expensive credit first.
The finance agreement will state how to pay it off and penalty(ies) for early repayment. Work out the totals and compare to the credit card but I would say almost certainly that if you're paying interest on the credit card then that will be the most expensive.

Any other way will cost you more, as you know. Armed with the facts and figures try again to convince him and show him why you're right (and he's wrong.).
