Direct debits on bank holidays?

Does anyone know if you’ve set up a direct debit and the company has the payment date on a bank holiday what will happen?

I’m really worried it will show as a missed payment although I thought direct debit was meant to handle that?

Should I be feeling impending doom?

It almost certainly won't be counted as late so no need to worry. If it's a credit card, the payment date is adjusted for weekends anyway so it's the same as that.

Direct debits are controlled by the payee so they take the money on a day of their choosing so if it's delayed by a bank holiday it's because they didn't ask for the money sooner, ie their fault not yours.

But not sure why direct debits don't move on weekends and bank holidays, it's not like a person has to be in work to press buttons, it must all happen automatically surely?

No, it’s fine, it will come out tomorrow instead and will not count as late.

Thank you so much for the reassurances! I’m so scared of doing anything to jepodize being able to rent somewhere.
