Card cloned twice in as many months. How can I protect myself going forward?

My Barclays debit card has been cloned twice in as many months. First time only a small amount was used fraudulently and I noticed it straight away and blocked my card.
Yesterday someone has tried to purchase £300 worth of alcohol but that transaction was declined although a smaller transaction of £86 was put through.

Not only is it frustrating in the sense that someone has managed to purchase from my account, I also now have no card for the next few days which is really inconvenient

How can I protect myself going forward? Barclays are significantly laid back about it like "shit happens". Report to fraud etc etc

Are you using the same ATM? Theres one near work that we all avoid now because several people had their cards cloned

Also be careful of handing over your card and letting it out of your sight - this is where it can be copied. The most obvious example being where you’re paying for drinks or something and the card is taken from you to a card machine at the back bar.

Banks are very relaxed about fraud . It annoyed me when my purse got stolen with my contactless card in when was use a few times for a couple of days which apparently with contactless transactions takes a couple of days to cancel . I got the Money back but it annoyed me that someone was buying booze etc with my money while I had no access to my own money . I stopped with a contactless card after that . I use Apple Pay mostly now which I feel is safer as I use my finger print so if I loose my phone it can't be opened.

Do RFID wallets actually work?

SnowsInWater · 25/03/2019 21:28

I had never heard of those wallets until I bought one in the US where it was a big selling point so maybe they do 😊
