DS (15) and Paypal

DS set up a Paypal account without telling me. The age limit is 18 and hes's 15. He's used it to sell a couple of things on ebay.

The account has been frozen, with £30 in it and paypal are now wanting him to send over a screenshot of his passport. Obviously, being under 18 he'll need to close the account, and i have pointed out the lesson on this, to him.

Is there anything he can do about the £30? Can he even close the account with money still in it, frozen? he's in a bit of a Catch 22 situation and worried about it.

Hi OP. I don't know for certain about the £30 but they will likely ban his account and it will close automatically after a certain amount of time. Any cards or accounts linked to the account are usually then "flagged" so he can't just set up a new account to use them. A friend of mine had his account banned once and he was allowed to withdraw the funds left after a certain amount of time passed before the account closed for good (it was something ridiculous like 120 days or something). However, he was not underage so I'm not sure whether they will release funds to a minor. Probably best for him to come clean and ask them how to proceed? Sorry I can't be more help. I feel bad for your DS, he was unlucky to have been caught, I opened my paypal account at 13 and was never checked!

I would contact PayPal directly to see what happens but would say lesson learned if not.
