Hi all. Currently on stat mat leave due to return next month on part time hours 21 per week. Early on in pregnamcy partner was made redundant and had ro tale a NMW job. Early this year i applied for Unniversal credit and from early feb received some help. 2 monthy payments so far. SO Problem is i will struggle to work the 3 days as my partners new job gets him home much later in the evening than the previous one did. So i will have to work all weekend double shifts to fufill the 21 hour contract. We have no help from family re childcare. I have heard from other people that they just didn't return to work and UC made up the difference for pay. Surely this cant be real? Has any one had any experience with this?

No it certainly wont replace your income or else no - one would bother working again. UC tops up your income if low enough. If you have just been getting basic smp then you wont have been having many deductions for that so probably will just go up a little.

Yes i thought it was to good to be true. Im just worried as i may have to drop my hours as partner works a 6 day week. Whether with his previous job he came home and i could literally go out amd do a.night shift. Im really worried as we are barely getting by now
