Tax advisor who can deal with dual UK/American taxes - recommendations?

Long story short is that I have to file/pay American taxes due to some family trusts that I receive dividends from.

I've been with one tax firm for 14 years but the last few years have been filled with cock-ups as my taxes are given to junior accountants with no clue about American taxes. (I have a feeling the tax firm has gone far more corporate in the time I've been with them and I'm small fry.)

Can any American expats recommend a tax advisor they like?

Are you American? That will change the advice you need.

I'd probably post on an American expat forum rather than MN.

Or at least the overseas living board (or whatever it's called).

Good kluck - I know the issue you are facing is a total PITA!

Yes, I'm American. I used to be on an American expat forum and I completely forgot it existed. (Baby brain?)

Overseas living probably wouldn't help as I need an account for my UK taxes - the American ones are fairly straightforward actually! (I use software that does it all for me)

I'm glad of the extra money but it is a total PITA!

No idea of your budget, but Buzzacott Livongstone are good. I work for a large co where the directors have US tax to pay due to the corporate structure. We use Buzzacott for their personal tax affairs, and they are good.

If you're American you should have been filing taxes every year regardless of income. Have you not been? Join American moms in UK Facebook group. Loads of tax advice there.

Try the American Expats in London Facebook group

Iggy - no worries there, I've definitely been filing US taxes, it's my UK tax people who are crap. (like not understanding how the dividends work in US taxes and therefore doubling my US income!)

I’m a dual national and have a brilliant tax lady who does everything for both countries, but we’re based on the continent so she’s not based in the UK! I can still give you her info if you like and think you can work remotely.

This is the company I use: www.analietax.com

www.zebra.accountant work with many American expats on their UK taxes. Wendy is lovely and will personally deal with your return. They also work with a firm of US accountants if you need to change them too
