Hi all! I'm having a planned c section with my second baby on the 1st April. I have recently sent off my Maternity Allowance Claim to DWP/Job Centre. I received my text today to say they've received my claim and it will take up to 6 weeks for a decision and for me to receive any money but my baby will be here by 6 weeks time and my only other source of income is UC which is next to nothing. Has anybody had to claim through the job centre/DWP & if so how long did it actually take them to get back to you with a decision and for you to receive money! Thank you 😊

when your baby is born you will get an extra element on your Uc of £231.67. You will also receive child benefit of £20.70 per week. the problem with claiming maternity allowance is that it is paid to you but is then deducted pound for pound from your Uc claim anyway so you end up no better off for claiming it.

Depending on the amount of MA you receive it may still cancel out your Uc to nothing. Do you get the rent element of Uc or do you live with family?
