CSA help

Hi,
I have been with dh for 4.5 years, he has 3 children from his ex, 3 years ago he started paying CSA for the 3 children, after 6 months he was signed off work with depression so could not keep up payments, dh was off work for 1.5 years, he wrote a letter to the CSA to explain his situation.

Anyway we did'nt hear anymore from them, dh returned to work (2 days a week) last year and is a SAHD 3 days a week, he has'nt payed anything to CSA as he only brings home 50 pound a week.

We have just recieved a letter saying he owes 6000 pound (sorry my pound key does'nt work) this is to cover the last 2 years.

He has phoned the CSA to eplain that he has'nt been working and now only works 2 days a week. They are saying he still has to pay as he did'nt contact them to change his details and they have no record of the letter he sent.

I know dh should pay for his kids, we already pay for school trips, clothes, shoes etc...
We cant afford 6000 pound, we dont even have 1000. We also have 2 children to feed.

Are the CSA rite in saying dh has to pay this money?

Sorry about the rant, just dont know where to go from here.

Marne -can't help but feel for you and trying to bump your post.

Did you keep a copy of the letter he sent?

I'd go to the CAB and ask them for some help, he shouldn't have to pay it if he wasn't working, but it all comes down to him notifying them of change of circs I would think.
