does anyone know what my sil may be entitled to claim . she is about 52 and has worked for a long time as alegal secretary but got made redundant about 4yrs ago . since then she has been temping whenever she can get work but it is sporadic to say the least . she has been told that she cant claim JSA as she earnt insufficient last year (3k) and is unable to claim anything else as she ash savings of about £19K which she has aved since starting work as she has no occupational pension . i think she is above the threshold for IS therfore . she is living like a church mouse and hardly buying any food , no clothes etc and not going out . obvioulsy have offered to lend her some but she refuses . i wonder if teh answer is for ehr to get below the threshold and then claim JSA /IS . she is single and has a mortgage of about £30k . i would love to help her but am terrified of getting it wrong and making her worse off if that is possible! any advice gratefully received xx

could she not sink her savings over the limit they allow into her mortgage to reduce her outgoings and to get her under the threshold?

has she been to see the citizens advice bureau? they give free legal advice and may help to direct her to more places that can help her better. they ususally have a drop in day and then can refer you to one of their advisors for an appointment. hth fm x

thanks for your comments . i will point her in the directions suggested . had a quick look at entitled to and it confirms on these figures that she would get nothing becasue fo teh savings . she is so cautious i dont think she would ever go on a spree but that may be the answer. many thanks
