Pondering this. What happens with Universal credit and unpaid parental leave?

I'm crossing my fingers I'm not transferred over to UC for at least 18 months so I don't know a lot about it yet.

I work PT and receive tax credits. I usually take one or two weeks of unpaid parental leave a year to help cover school hols. Tax credits (for me) have been no problem and I'm not penalised for losing money those weeks.

As far as I understand UC is based on earnings, does anyone know what happens to parents who take unpaid parental leave and earn less that month?

Are you asking if uc would be increased to cover unpaid parental leave? My understanding is that your claim would stay the same and assume you have been paid.

Thanks sugar.
I would hope that UC would remain the same and not trigger a review or penalties.

Uc is based on earnings reported by your employer during your Uc assessment period ( monthly) so if no earnings are reported because you are taking unpaid leave then you would get more Uc payment for that period. I don't know if it would trigger them to query why your earning were low.
