Transferring money from Nationwide

A friend of mine has transferred some money they owe me from their Nationwide account to my Halifax current account. They did it at about 8pm this evening and I’ve still not got it. Whenever I get bank transfers from anyone else, it’s always instant. Should I be concerned that it’s not in yet or is it common for transfers between two building societies to take a while? And if so, how long can they take typically?

It can take a few hours.

It’s been 12 hours :/

Was it a large amount? Get them to check what sort code and account they used as one digit wrong would send it to the wrong account

dementedpixie · 08/01/2019 08:17

Or they may not have sent it at all

True, I’ll double check with them as I’m pretty sure it shouldn’t take that long. They did it using online banking

i bank with Nationwide. Payments to DS2 with another bank (former Building Soc) go quickly, about 2 hours although sometimes instant, payment to DS1 with different bank much slower.
It might be worth getting her to check the payment details though. It is is wrong the quicker she tries to stop it the better.

If the transfer was made at 8pm it mightn't be in until close of business the next day. My savings account uses a holding account which drags the time out a little so might be the same for nationwide. Even when they say close of business it is still normally in by midday.

Nationwide can be slow, I find. Certainly slower than transfers out of my Co Op accounts are.

The faster payments system should get the payment to the other account within 2 hours

I bank with Nationwide and regularly do bank transfers and payments are usually instant. I would get your friend to check. Sometimes payments in or out are delayed due to maintenance but the website should say this.
