Chip App? Should I steer clear?

Does anyone use the Chip app? Seems it sets up a Barclays account for you and transfers amounts to that. Is it regulated yet?

I'm still looking for a decent budget app one that specifically tells me this is how much you can spend. I am far too happy to spend and am rubbish at budgeting I tried YNAB and could not get on with it, seems I am far too stupid Grin

Chip seems to fit the bill but the regulation or lack of it worries me. Does anyone have any positive feedback?

I've used it with no issues. Transfers money quickly too

Although CHIP isn't regulated and money in it isn't covered by the FSCS, the money us stored with Barclays, so if CHIP goes belly up, your money should be okay. In theory. I can't see the point of it, though.

I'm thinking of signing up with this, DH is really financially savvy and reckons it's safe and even with just one referral it's as good as many of the regular savings accounts I calculate.

If anyone wants to give me their referral code I'm happy to use it!

I've decided on this over Plum which is similar, I think, because of the Barclays account.

Mine is BRVSAM @drspouse
I wouldn't say it's a budgeting app though, OP? I'm not in love with it, but it's ok. I'm pretty on top of my finances (love YNAB!) so it's slightly redundant - but it stops me keeping too much cash in my current account with zero interest...

I use Plum which is similar. I’m liking it so far. Always been a rubbish saver. They all seem to get good reviews and have been on MSE and other sites.

My code is VJX56C

drspouse · 26/02/2019 20:05

Ah my friend gave me her code!

DustyDoorframes · 26/02/2019 22:14

Much better than strangers codes on tinternet!

I've started using Chip and have found it very useful to help save a bit of extra money, but I'm not sure about how it would work for budgeting. I heard about an app called Yolt that is apparently good for setting up budgets (but doesn't have the ability to transfer money to or from your bank account, it has read-only access to your bank balance iirc).
