Ebay tips please!

I'm trying to clear our house in preparation for building work and so I want to sell as many of our possessions as possible.

Has anyone got any good tips for how to do well on eBay? Are there any book selling or DVD selling sites that people recommend (or should I just write all those off and take them to the charity shop?)

I have done much better recently selling (and buying) on Facebook sellers groups/ market place. It's free, for a start, no sellers fees or PayPal fees. Normally cash on collection.

For day to day things I agree that FB is better
Ebay still wins for unusual stuff

Facebook market place is a good way to sell things if you have the patience.
I find it's glitchy, in that sometimes something you have listed doesn't go live (just delete it and start again), or they reject random things which for reasons you can't fathom breach their listing policies.
You need a laid back attitude to it all. You will get asked how much something is in a message with the price in the title, and incessantly 'where are you' even though you say three times in the add and give your postcode. You will get plenty of no shows and offers for stupidly low amounts.

It is however FREE, cash in hand, no fees, no people wanting to send things back, and having to pay their postage, and the vast majority of people are genuinely lovely. I use it in preference to eBay.

DON'T BOTHER !!! I used to love selling on eBay, now they constantly change my post's without permission, putting 'takes offers over such amount' etc the fee's and PayPal fee's are also a joke !!! Gumtree Shpock and Facebook are best for selling!!

I find that Ebay still works for me, as long as you regard it as a way of paid-decluttering rather than making a profit as such. I take high quality photos and write a detailed description. Also, if there is any ‘quirk’ to the item, I contact the buyer before posting just to double check that they have read the description and really want the item.
