Quick thick question about charity collections/begging

Do you need a licence to do street collections? What about if performing/busking for charity - would it need to be private premises? Also, is there any reason why (other than company refusing) a registered charity can't have collection boxes in shops etc?

Thanks for any advice.

your best bet would be to contact the local council and talk to street trading thsy should be able to shed some light on it
