Maternity Allowance

Hi all,

Does anyone know Maternity Allowance stops as soon as you go back to work?

I wasn't entitled to SMP as I changed companies (wasn't aware I was pregnant!) therefore didn't meet the minimum 26weeks working for the company to get SMP.

We are already worrying about money and finances as the £145/week Maternity Allowance just isn't stretching far enough so I'm planning to go back to work after Christmas.

I'm presuming the Mat Allowance will be stopped automatically as soon as I go back to work?

Thanks!

Yes it is a benefit which replaces your earnings so if you start earning again it will stop. if you are on a low income have you looked at whether your household income could be topped up by Universal credit or tax credits ?

I thought that would be the case!

So long as I can go back full time I think we'll be ok but probably won't be eligible for any other help. Luckily a family member has offered child care

Thanks fo your help!
