HMRC Tax

Sorry not sure if this is in the right place.

Just looking for some advice, I got a P800 letter to say HMRC owe me money as I've paid too much tax over the past year. It says I can go to a gov.uk website to claim but I need my P60 or UK passport to be identified. If I don't claim online within 45days they'll just send out a cheque.

I've misplaced my P60 from April & now on maternity leave (pretty much lost all contacts from work), I also don't have a UK passport as I'm Irish.

Does anyone know;
Can I use my Irish passport details to be identified on the HMRC gov.uk website or must it be UK passport?
Can I call HMRC and have them request a P60 from my employer?

It's no big deal, I can wait the 45days for a cheque if either of those options aren't viable!

You need the P60 to identify yourself when you register - can you ask your employer for a copy.

You say it specifies UK passport, I would take that to mean UK passport.

Things weren't left great with my employer at the time @LittleBearPad so I'd rather not have to make contact with him myself. Could HMRC contact on my behalf?

I will call them tomorrow just want some idea of what to ask!

Do you have a recent payslip? I did this recently and that was the third option. Employers can not usually provide copies of P60s anyway.

I suspect you will need to wait.

Just wait and they will send you a cheque.

However, you should keep your documents for 6 complete tax years.

Between new baby and a house move it got misplaced, probably along with many other important documents!

Thanks all for your help
