One calendar month's notice would take him to 26 November ie. The day efore the 27th

Just to add he does pay each month on the 1st

Does your agreeement say he has to give notice on the 1st though - if not then one month's notice takes him to 26 November so if he has paid £x to cover 1-31 OCtober then he will owe 26 days ro cover 1-26 November calculated as follows:

12 (months) x £monthly rent = years rent

Then divide by 365 = day's rent

Then day's rent × 26 (days ie 1-26 Nov) = amount due

thank you very much, no unfortunately i have not mentioned notice has to be on the 1st, therefore i agree 26th sounds very fair, thank you

Is it really worth an argument for the sake of one or two days?

Agree, if he pays on 27th, then he needs to pay up to 26th.
