Shared parental leave teaching?

I’m due to go on mat leave in jan and I’m trying to work out how shared parental leave works. I plan on staying off work until the beginning of the 6 week holidays in July and going back so I get paid over the summer. After the summer holidays would my husband then be able to take the rest of my mat leave (about 4 weeks) as shared parental leave or would he have to do it straight after I return to work. We’re both teachers so it doesn’t make sense for us to be on mat leave over the summer.

Can you have a 6 week gap?

You can't have a gap no, so if you went "back" in July to get paid over the summer, he would have to start his leave in July and not be paid for the summer.
